I’m a teddy bear in my seventies, eight inches tall, slim, furry in places, affectionate, and adventurous. I’m retired and I do not squeak. I spend quite a lot of time in the cupboard. But when I am not in the cupboard, I lead a rich, satisfying, cultured, sociable and active life. I am a member of Red & Green Teddies, an ecosocialist group of soft toys. I read small books, play the triangle, and enjoy thinking about food. I’m vegetarian, obviously.
Is that the sort of thing you wanted to know?
Good luck Teddy. You’re my kind of bear. I’m going to be following you all the way.
Your our kind of bear too. The triangle is my instrument as well….
Hi Tom, thanks so very much for creating this blog, it is great to get some news of you and yours, and to hear something of how your daily life is going.
I am a walrus, my companion is a pup.
We don’t do names, proper or nick, too many connotations attached. Names elicit preconceptions, for example Teddy sounds rather Edwardian, public school, bit posh for ecosocialism. And what are we to make of Yesyes??? Walrus
Tom: Thank you, Walrus. Good to hear from you too. You sent a lovely picture, but I haven’t worked out how to put it on this page.
I like my name, because all the letters are symmetrical. In fact the letter O has an infinite number of axes of symmetry.
Your species name is an anagram of “Law ‘R’ Us”, so even abstaining from names doesn’t entirely avoid connotations
I think I’ll need to be very careful what I do and say around you from now, axes of symmetry sounds so scary, a fearsome connotation to have in a name. Walrus
Sorry, Walrus. I think we had a misunderstanding. I’ve made a nice page about axes and scimitars (there’s button somewhere further up), and I hope you won’t be scared now.
My friend Walrus is right in saying that I’m a pup, but I do have a name. I’m called BRUNO.
Tom: Thanks for letting me know, Bruno.
Hi Tom, I’m Mut. We share some symmetries even though I don’t have that great universal center you have. My middle letter is rather nice, though, because it can hold some tea. Maybe we can meet sometime, if this lockdown ever ends?
I’m female, by the way, but I’d rather not tell you my species for now. We could let that be a surprise . . . (It’s ok, I’m vegetarian.)
Hello Mut, it’s good to meet another symmetrical person. I’m sorry if I sounded as though I was bragging about my letter O. Walrus had made me feel rather defensive about my name. You’re right, U is a beautiful and useful letter. Until we meet, I can imagine many different species that you might belong to.
