books about lost bears and other people

A Dog So Small, by Philippa Pearce. Teddy says that before he had Lopsy, he very much wanted a faithful friend such as a dog. In this book, it’s not the very small dog that gets lost, but Ted says you have to read the book yourself to find out who it is.

A Strange Disappearance, by Anna Katharine Green

Dogger, by Shirley Hughes. Bimbo says this always makes him cry.

King Solomon’s Mines, by Henry Rider Haggard. Sir Henry Curtis is looking for his brother, who has gone missing looking for King Solomon’s gold mines.

Peter Pan, by James Matthew Barrie. This is really a play, but there is a book as well. Here’s Wendy with the lost boys, drawn by Alice Bollingbroke Woodward.

The Fairy Doll, by Rumer Godden. Strawberry says she identified with Elizabeth in this book, who is the youngest and not good at anything. The fairy doll enables her to do all kinds of things, but then she goes missing.

The Silver Sword, by Ian Serraillier. Bimbo recommends this, but says that it is very harrowing. Nearly everyone in it is lost, or at least not where they want to be.

The Winter Bear, by Ruth Craft and Erik Blegvad

This is the Bear, by Sarah Hayes. Lopsy’s choice.

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, by Karen Joy Fowler. Monkey’s recommendation

Where are you, Blue Kangaroo? by Emma Chichester Clark

Where’s My Teddy, by Jez Alborough (read by Jez Alborough)
